It’s final: May Deadline for Google Mobile Search Update

Last year, CESI began advising its clients regarding changes to Google’s ranking algorithm, a change that – as of April 21, 2015 - increases the weight of mobile-friendly sites over non-mobile sites in search results. As the year went on, however, some web professionals began to wonder if Google had scaled back the update to allow more time for sites to achieve mobile compliance.

Now, the speculation can end. Google has recently announced a May deadline to roll out “an update to mobile search results that increases the effect of the ranking signal to help our users find even more pages that are relevant and mobile-friendly”. Google claims that mobile-friendly sites will be unaffected by the change. Non-mobile sites, however, could be drastically affected.
